3 Reasons Why Loving Your Work is Paramount

Each of us has a blueprint deep inside of how we want to contribute to the world with our unique self. The writer James Baldwin said: “You must want to become yourself.” I believe this is a key to why loving what we do every day is so life giving.

Here are three reasons why loving your work is paramount:

1) We come into this life with particular skills, talents, gifts, passions, and desires. When we express these in our career and day-to-day work life, we experience more success in our career aspirations, because we are in the flow with our natural inclinations.

Studies by Dr. David Hawkins have shown that love is a very high energetic vibration and that dwelling in the states of joy, gratitude, and love creates synchronicity and extraordinary outcomes, and improves performance. We deeply energetically influence each other even if we often forget that truth so when we are in a high vibration we bring more power and confidence without stress or pushing, making goals easier to achieve and relationships easier to navigate in our career and work.

2) When we love what we do, and use the skills we most love to use most of the time in our work day, we tend to make the largest contribution that we can to the common good. This is because although we are all hardwired to serve others in some capacity, only we can meet the needs of the world in our unique way, only we possess the special sauce created by our history/journey/skills/talents and this blesses the world profoundly.

This is the ultimate win-win, the most consequential virtuous circle - what we love to do meets the needs of those around us at the deepest level.

3) Our work takes up so much of our time and energy over a lifetime and the day-to-day fulfillment we experience when we are doing what we love generates happiness and prosperity on all levels. When we love our work, our entire life is exponentially enhanced – our relationships, treatment of others, and health and self-care are better. Finding and committing ourselves to work we love is therefore an act of deep self-love.

We deserve to have a good quality of life every day – not just on weekends or when we retire. And when we do, everyone benefits, especially our beloveds, the people we care about most.

But what if you don’t love your work and feel you need to keep doing what you are doing for financial reasons? That happens and the great thing is you can learn to love your work right where you are and no matter what you are doing. We are responsible for our own happiness and making a decision that we can express more love at work will be a self-fulfilling and self-enhancing prophecy.

Although you don’t need to get a new position or leave your current work if you are unhappy and feel you must stay for now, you will need to change the way you show up. Decide to love where you are now in your work – list the things you appreciate about it and what you appreciate about everyone you work with. Get into an energy of service and identify ways you can be of service to clients or customers, co-workers, your boss or management and how you can add value to what you bring.

And remember love can be a game-changer – when we can bring more love to our tasks and love the people we come in contact with, the situation often shifts in ways we couldn’t imagine or strategize for ourselves.
